The Mexican Senate on Thursday approved broad measures to curb money laundering, including new restrictions on cash transactions and the creation of a financial intelligence unit to focus on organized crime. The Calderon administration, which proposed the bill in August, is banking on the new tools to stem the flow of an estimated $10 billion in drug-trafficking proceeds annually.
