Papar: Papar Umno divisional chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail said the division fully supports the Government for not issuing a gambling licence that would have enabled the public, especially non-Muslims, to bet legally during the on-going World Cup tournament.
He said gambling should not only be seen as negative from the perspective of religion but also morally as it could destroy the family institution and harmony among the people.
He also said the Government should act more firmly to enforce the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) as such activities could have a negative impact.
"This (money laundering) can be described as a 'daylight robbery' and done for the self-interest of certain people. That is why Papar Umno is taking a firm stand on this and urging the Government to act more sternly when enforcing AMLA in the country," he said.
Rahim, who is also Pantai Manis Assemblyman, said this at the 19th Papar Umno delegation meeting, Sunday.
National Umno Supreme Council member-cum-special adviser to the Ministry of Regional and Rural Development, Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman opened the meeting.
Also present were Papar Umno Divisional Deputy Head, Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, National Puteri Umno Head Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin, Papar Umno Wanita head Datin Dgku Ainum Pg Bagul, Papar Umno Youth head Armizan Mohd Ali and Papar Umno Puteri head Yanti Adam.
A total of 335 delegates from 139 branches here attended the meeting.
