TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute pharmacist faces a possible 10-year prison sentence if convicted of health care fraud and money laundering in a scheme that allegedly netted him more than $3.5 million.
Brazil resident John D. Love, a pharmacist and controlling member of the Terre Haute Prescription Shop, has been charged with health care fraud and money laundering following an investigation by the Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, The Internal Revenue Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller’s Medicaid Fraud Enforcement Unit.
U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Hogsett called the case the “single largest health care fraud and prosecution in the Terre Haute district” during a news conference the morning, when the allegations were announced.
An initial hearing will be scheduled for an arraignment in Terre Haute before U.S. Magistrate Judge William Lawrence.
As part of the investigation, federal authorities seized five Harley Davidson motorcycles, a Corvette sports car, a Mustang sports car, four sport utility vehicles, two pickup trucks and funds from multiple bank accounts. The government will be seeking forfeiture of these and other assets, according to a news release.
