SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah man is charged with one count of mail fraud and four counts of money laundering for allegedly embezzling $1.3 million from a Utah trucking firm.
In U.S. District Court papers, prosecutors say that beginning in January 2007, Nathan Lee Kapp skimmed up to $10,000 in cash a week from student fees from C.R. England Trucking's educational centers in Utah and elsewhere.
If convicted of the charges, Kapp, of Syracuse, could face a maximum penalty of 60 years in federal prison.
Court documents say the 36-year-old Kapp was a controller for the company's recruiting, training and safe-driving department.
On Wednesday, a judge ordered Kapp held in jail. A hearing is set for Nov. 19.
A telephone message left for Kapp's attorney was not immediately returned Thursday.
