SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah Bureau of Land Management employee is accused of embezzling by using a government-issued credit card to purchase items for himself.
Justin Johnson of Holden, Millard County, has been charged with embezzling government property and two counts of money laundering, according to an indictment filed June 30. The indictment, originally sealed, was released Wednesday. The 30-year-old man is accused of embezzling from the agency, buying more than $1,000 worth of merchandise and accessing funds using his government-issued credit card.
Johnson purchased two firearms with the funds in an attempt to conceal or disguise the embezzlement, the indictment states.
The maximum penalty for the theft of government property charge is 10 years in prison, and the maximum possible sentence for each count of money laundering is 20 years in prison.
