Seventeen years ago, Jack Purdy began to assemble an impressive portfolio of businesses and properties in Bamfield, a small, picturesque town on the Island's west coast.

He still owns them today, but nearly all of the businesses have closed and the buildings are run down.

They symbolize a fallout between Purdy and residents, some of whom spoke to police about their neighbour when officers set up a sting operation during a money-laundering investigation.

Now Purdy, who was acquitted, has turned the tables.

After suing the RCMP, he gained access to files that told everything the people of Bamfield had said about him.
