The man in charge of a development company that left a major downtown project unfinished for years has been indicted on multiple charges related to a misuse of funds.
Eyewitness News 4 reported last December about the Anasazi downtown development, a building sitting unfinished at the intersection of 6th and Central in downtown Albuquerque since 2008.
Now a federal grand jury believes company owner Vincent Garcia, his son David, and their business partner, Derek Barnhill, were illegally spending money that was supposed to be spent on the Anasazi project and others.
An indictment filed in court this past week accuses the group of funneling money from project accounts into another account, and then using the money for their own purposes.
It accuses David Garcia of using the money to build his own house, while Vincent Garcia is accused of using some of the money to invest in a casino project.
An attorney for Vincent Garcia is quoted in a local paper saying there was no criminal intent.
