Federal charges are filed against eight people from Ohio and Kentucky accused of money laundering in connection with a motorcycle theft ring.
The indictment released today says the group altered or obliterated VIN numbers on the bikes-including Harleys-then transferred titles to conceal the fact they were stolen.
Four of the eight suspects are from the Tri-State: 31 year old Robert Jason Chapman from Cleves, 60 year old Robert Harris of Newport, 33 year old Shon Fields of Cincinnati, and 31 year old Christina Bannigan of Cleves.
Federal investigators say over an eight year period beginning in 2000, the group made $2.5 million from the conspiracy. If convicted, each could spend 20 years in prison.
