Jerusalem. Israel's State Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein is set to indict Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on fraud, money laundering, and breach-of-trust charges, Xinhua informed.
Weinstein will announce his decision by Tuesday on whether to file charges for graft against Lieberman. The foreign minister will be given the chance to make his case against the charges in a subsequent hearing, according to the Ha'aretz daily.
Sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined any comment on the matter, although they told Xinhua that this is not the first time the Attorney General have considered indicting Lieberman.
The Israel Police have recommended charging Lieberman over bribes worth more than 10 million shekels (about 2.9 million U.S. dollars) that he may have allegedly received from businessmen, and laundered via a string of front companies and bank accounts, Ha' aretz said.
Additionally, Lieberman is accused of breach-of-trust in connection to Israel's former ambassador to Belarus, Ze'ev Ben- Aryeh, who allegedly showed the foreign minister documents pertaining to the money laundering probe.
The investigation against Lieberman began 14 years ago, when he was a member of the Knesset (Israel's parliament). Lieberman has denied all the charges and accusations leveled against him over the years.
