The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained 10 policemen to facilitate investigations into a racket offering 'protection services' for the smuggling and sale of petrol and diesel at the Malaysia-Thailand border.

According to an MACC statement, seven of them were picked up at the MACC office in Kedah after they were sent from the Padang Terap police headquarters while two others were brought from the Kota Putra police station in Padang Terap.

It said another policeman – general operations force (GOF) personnel – was nabbed at the Ulu Kinta GOF camp in Perak.

The 10, comprising six corporals, constable, sergeant, sergeant-major and the GOF personnel, were picked up between 11.30am and 2pm. They are aged between 25 and 58.

This brings to 25, the total number of people detained under the “Ops Licin 2”.

Yesterday, the MACC kicked off the “Ops Licin 2” to detect enforcement personnel involved in soliciting and receiving bribes in return for offering “protection services” to the smuggling and sale of petrol and diesel at the Malaysia-Thailand border.

In yesterday's operation, the MACC detained 15 people, including 13 law enforcement officers from the anti-smuggling unit and GOF, as well as two civilians.

However, they were released today after their statements were recorded.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar when contacted today, said the police would wait for the MACC investigations to be completed before taking the next course of action. – Bernama, March 3, 2015.
