'BJP pursues double standards on issue of corruption': D. Raja

Mon, Dec 1, 2014

New Delhi, Nov. 30 (ANI): Asserting that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah's claims of uprooting corruption in West Bengal exposes the ruling party's double standards, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Sunday alleged that the former is talking about corruption to take advantage of the situation that prevails in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee's leadership.

The CPI leader said it is an irony that Amit Shah speaks about uprooting corruption in West Bengal.

"When it comes to corruption, the BJP pursues double standards, multiple standards in the fight against corruption. We have seen in case of Mr. Yeddyurappa, we have seen in case of several ministers in the state of Gujarat, we have seen allegations against BJP leaders directly," said Raja.

"And what BJP has done? Is it the way to uproot corruption? So, it is irony that BJP talks about uprooting corruption," he added.

Commenting on the BJP president's criticism of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Shah over the Saradha chit-fund scam, the CPI leader said all the names that are coming out in this case are that of the TMC members and added that this is a serious issue.

"The state of West Bengal and the nation expect that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should come out openly and she has to explain her position, the position of her party, how all names which are coming out are TMC names and all allegations are directly linked with the TMC. She has to explain this," said Raja.

"Mr. Amit Shah going and talking about corruption is to take advantage of the situation that prevails in the state of West Bengal for which Mamata Banerjee has to be blamed," he added.

Earlier in the day, the BJP president Shah took potshots at Mamata over the Saradha chit-fund scam and the Burdwan blast and appealed to the people of West Bengal to vote for change and development in the state.

Asserting that there will be change in many places in the coming days, Shah urged the people to vote for the BJP to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is able to carry forward his development plans in the state.

Shah accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo of providing shelter to Bangladeshi infiltrators for the sake of vote bank politics.

"I appeal to 'Didi' that if she wants to indulge in vote bank politics, then she can do that, but for that she shouldn't put the safety of the nation at stake. Don't provide shelter to Bangladeshi infiltrators just for vote bank politics," Shah said at a rally in Kolkata.

Taking a dig at the TMC MPs recent protest in the Parliament on the black money issue, he asked why Mamata was protecting those involved in the Saradha chit-fund scam.

"The Trinamool Congress MPs protest against black money in the Parliament. I want to ask 'Didi' whether Saradha chit-fund money is black money or white money. I want to ask 'Didi' why she is protecting the people involved in Saradha chit fund scam," he said.

The Trinamool Congress had taken the government head on in the Parliament last week over the black money issue. (ANI)
