Customs officers at the northern Hudaitha checkpoint have foiled an attempt to smuggle 8 million amphetamine drug pills into the Kingdom, it was reported Wednesday.
The pills were hidden on the sides of paint tins.
"We foiled two attempts to smuggle amphetamine tablets through two consignments," said Ibrahim Al-Anazi, director of customs in Hudaitha. There were 537,572 tablets in the first consignment and 7.67 million tablets in the second."
Smuggling attempts were sophisticated and were a challenge to foil, he said.
"Smugglers adopt innovative methods to bring drugs into the Kingdom," he pointed out.
Al-Anazi commended the vigilance of his officers at the Kingdom's airports, seaports and other entry points. "Officers have foiled several drug smuggling attempts in recent months," he added.
