NEW DELHI (AP) — India's Supreme Court on Monday gave a two-month extension to an investigative team looking into alleged corruption in last year's Indian Premier League while refusing to reinstate Narainswami Srinivasan as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The Justice Mukul Mudgal committee was granted more time to investigate the spot-fixing scandal after it submitted an interim report.

The BCCI pleaded that Srinivasan be allowed to resume his administrative duties since an annual general meeting was scheduled for later this month but the court said "Srinivasan cannot be allowed to discharge his job as BCCI president till the report is filed by Justice Mudgal."

The court, which had ordered the investigation in May while asking Srinivasan to step aside from his role as the Indian cricket board chief, was adjourned until Nov. 10.

The role of International Cricket Council chairman Srinivasan is being probed after initial investigations found his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings team principal Gurunath Meiyappan guilty of being in touch with illegal bookmakers.

The Mudgal committee is also looking into the alleged role of 12 other persons, whose names have not been divulged, including some members of the Indian cricket team who are currently touring England.

Meiyappan had been arrested last year by Mumbai Police and was in jail for more than two weeks before getting bail, but the BCCI's own probe panel initially cleared Meiyappan.

However, the Bombay High Court, after it was petitioned by the Cricket Association of Bihar, announced the BCCI panel's decision to clear Meiyappan was "illegal and unconstitutional."

The CAB then filed a petition in the Supreme Court, leading to the probe.

The Justice Mudgal committee has been given all investigative powers, including search and seizure of relevant documents and recording evidence, but not the power to arrest.
