Foreign minister still apparently to be charged with fraud, breach of trust, money laundering, and disrupting court proceedings
Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein is expected to announce in the coming days that the state will not be charging Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman with bribery.
He will, apparently, be charged with fraud, breach of trust, money laundering, and disrupting court proceedings, after two crucial meetings Weinstein plans to hold over the next two weeks.
Though the news has not been announced officially, Ynet learned Thursday that prosecutors are of the same opinion – that Lieberman's indictment should not include bribery charges. It is unlikely the attorney general will challenge this opinion.
In August of 2009 police recommended Lieberman be tried in a court of law for the charges mentioned above. The prosecution considered charging him with bribery, but has apparently reached a conclusion that not enough evidence exists.
The foreign minister has already announced that he will not attempt to use his immunity if indeed he is indicted.
