TRURO - A Kemptown man involved in the September 2007 sweeping drug roundup in Colchester County has been committed to stand trial on possession of property and money laundering charges.
Jonathon Craig Burgoyne, 32, of 1108 Kemptown Rd., opted to be tried by Supreme Court judge and jury following a preliminary hearing in provincial court that wrapped up Monday. A hearing to set a trial date has been set for Sept. 20.
Burgoyne is facing 21 charges involving money laundering and possessing property derived indirectly through criminal activity. The charges involve real estate properties on Kemptown Road, on the William George Johnson Road in East Mountain and on Westchester Road, vehicles, motor bikes, snowmobiles, an ATV and other items.
He is also charged with possessing $10,791 of allegedly ill-gained cash when arrested during the drug bust on Sept.26, 2007 and $3,800 dating to between July 12, 2007 and Aug. 23, 2007.
In December 2008, Burgoyne was fined $1,000 and placed on six-month's probation in relation to the drug bust, after pleading guilty to possessing 50 grams of marijuana and slightly more than 100 grams of cannabis resin (hash oil).
