KNOXVILLE - A New Market, Tenn., man was arrested today on federal charges involving wire fraud and money laundering.
According to an indictment filed in U.S. District Court, while working as chief financial officer for Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, 39-year-old Cameron J. Potter, allegedly was part of a scheme in which he embezzled more than $147,800 of his former employer's funds for his personal use. The indictment also alleges that Potter knowingly engaged in numerous monetary transactions with the funds that were embezzled.
Today, Potter made his initial appearance on the charges in U.S. District Court before Magistrate Judge C. Clifford Shirley. He entered a plea of not guilty on all charges and a trial date of March 23 was set before U.S. District Judge Thomas Phillips.
