Former chief warden of the Nusakambangan Narcotics Penitentiary Marwan Adli was sentenced to 13 years in prison and Rp 10 billion of fines after proven guilty of assisting narcotic sales inside the prison.
“The defendant has convincingly proven to have assisted narcotics sales inside the prison and to have been involved in money laundering activities as well,” Presiding Judge Wilhelmus Hubertus Van Keeken said as quoted by the Attorney General’s Office website on Saturday.
Marwan was among nine people who had been arrested by National Narcotics Agency officers in cooperation with the local police last year. Marwan had reportedly been abusing his authority for years in return for gaining profits from Hartoni, a narcotics dealer, one of the prison inmates.
