NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The owner of a New Orleans-based home elevation company has pleaded guilty to plotting to conceal his employment of illegal immigrants.
Kenner resident Ramon Santos faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine following his guilty plea Thursday to conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Federal prosecutors say the 43-year-old owner of Rendon Construction LLC used a shell company to cash more than $281,000 in checks and pay illegal immigrants who worked for him.
His sentencing is set for Feb. 15.
