The Kirchnerite tycoon Lázaro Báez rejected accusations of money-laundering yesterday, saying he will explain everything in court.
Báez held a press conference yesterday in Río Gallegos, Santa Cruz, where he referred to the graft scandal which broke out last Sunday during Jorge Lanata’s TV show Periodismo para Todos.
The journalist aired a report based on the testimony of two businessmen, Leonardo Fariña and Fernando Elsakar, who later went back on their statements, claiming they had lied to Lanata.
Before reading a press release, Báez said he was “being used to smear the name of my friend Néstor (Kirchner, the late former president).” He then stated that all allegations were “slanderous,” adding he will press charges against “those responsible for this manoeuvre.”
Being this his first time public appearance since the scandal erupted, Báez faced Santa Cruz journalists but did not answer any questions.
Meanwhile, the court ordered a second raid to be conducted on Elaskar’s offices in Puerto Madero and the premises are to be guarded.
