New Jersey state troopers have seized more than $3 million in suspected drug money from a hidden compartment in a tractor trailer, authorities said today.
Troopers stopped the truck Thursday on Route 95 in Ewing. State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones said there was a false wall near the front of the trailer disguising the compartment where 120 bundles of cash were stashed.
The troopers arrested two California residents in the truck — Gildardo Andujo, 24, and Edward Ramirez, 25 — and charged them with conspiracy and money laundering. They’re being held at Mercer County jail on $500,000 bail.
Jones said the truck was targeted as part of an ongoing investigation. He said the two men were taking the money back to California, but would not say where they departed from on the East Coast.
