MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Memphis, Tenn., man already charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife now faces federal charges of insurance fraud and money laundering.
Federal authorities indicted Joseph Caronna on 63 counts Friday. He allegedly stole from insurance companies and his clients by forging signatures, withdrawing funds from accounts and stashing the money in false bank accounts.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports federal authorities are asking a judge to force Caronna to forfeit more than $835,000. They say he used some of the money to buy six cars and trucks.
The 46-year-old Caronna is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Tina Caronna. She was found dead of asphyxiation on Oct. 27, 2008, in the couple's Chevrolet Avalanche.
