Malik directs officials to curb money laundering
Feb.21, 2010
Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday directed officials to devise mechanisms in order to curb money laundering. The interior minister chaired a meeting of ministry officials after a media report that Pakistan has been included in the list of countries involved in money laundering. Malik directed the officials to take concrete steps for curbing money laundering, so that Pakistan’s name could be excluded from the list. The minister also directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general to probe the matter, as it had caused embarrassment to the country. Malik said after the cabinet’s approval, the Finance Ministry would be consulted regarding amendments in the existing legislation on money laundering.
