Mark Ingram, father of Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, will serve an extra 27 months in federal "[Office Space quote]" prison after jumping bail to watch Alabama's 2009 Sugar Bowl loss to Utah.

When we last caught up with the elder Ingram, he was on the lam after missing a court date related to the money-laundering charges he faced. Now, the former Giants wideout will serve close to 10 years with this additional sentence. This is a sad end to Ingram's saga. Even Judge Thomas Platt thought so, saying:

I do this with a heavy heart. You've had a remarkable career. ... It's too bad it had to end this way.

Ingram's case has had an air of absurdity from the beginning. Per the Associated Press: "His sentencing was delayed repeatedly as he tried to revoke the plea, fired several court-appointed attorneys and made what prosecutors called 'outlandish' legal arguments." Was it all a ploy to get to see his son play at Alabama?

Mark Ingram Jr. had no comment today, but he publicly expressed his affection for his father after winning the Heisman in December. In 10 years, when his dad is released, Mark Ingram may be nearing his retirement from professional football. I hope that's as far as he goes in following in his dad's footsteps.
