Miami, FL, United States (AHN) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Italian police arrested 27 suspected Cosa Nostra clan members Wednesday, including six in the U.S., in a joint crackdown against the Sicilian Mafia operating in the two countries.
In New York, Gambino family commanders Gaetano Napoli and sons Gaetano Jr. and Thomas were taken into custody by FBI agents for their alleged involvement in extortion, loan sharking, money laundering and fraudulent bankruptcy.
In Miami Beach, Roberto Settineri, Antonio Tricami and Daniel Dromerhauser were arrested on suspicion of money laundering and obstructing justice. Settineri is suspected as the U.S. conduit for the Santa Maria di Gesu crime family in Palermo. Tricamo is accused of laundering proceeds of the family's counterfeit cigarettes business.
In Sicily, 21 Gesu family members were arrested in Palermo on charges of drug trafficking, attempted homicide, money laundering, extortion and other crimes. Among them were Gioacchino Corso, his brother Giampaolo, hitman Giuseppe Lo Bocchiaro and Pietro Pilo, who had a log book showing victims of protection rackets and amounts due, as well as handguns.
