Las Virgenes Municipal Water District will offer customers a $300 rebate toward the purchase of a high-efficiency clothes washer. The offer is limited to the first 500 applicants who purchase qualifying machines.

Older top-loading washing machines can use 35 to 50 gallons per load. The newer high-efficiency front-loading units use as little as 10 to 15 gallons per load. Clothes come out just as clean but customers find they also use less detergent and clothes spend less time in the dryer, reducing energy costs.

The district also offers rebates on new high-efficiency toilets, irrigation sprinkler heads and weather-based irrigation controllers.

The district serves some 65,000 people in Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Westlake Village and adjacent unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
