A Pittsburgh firefighter is one of 18 people federal prosecutors have charged in connection with a heroin trafficking ring, a city official confirmed today.
James T. Green Sr., 51, of Stanton Heights is the only defendant not charged with selling drugs. He`s charged with helping his son, James Theodore "Stacks" Green, 28, of Penn Hills launder drug proceeds by buying a house in Penn Hills and a car through an unidentified straw buyer.
Fire Chief Darryl Jones said Green has not been suspended.
"There`s a difference between a charge and a conviction," he said. "I haven`t received any information on the charge. Until I get more information, I can`t just unplug him."
The younger Green and eight others were originally indicted by a federal grand jury in March. The senior Green and eight others were added in a new indictment that was unsealed yesterday.
Two Plum residents on the list, Michelle Jimenez, 31, and Terrald "Bevy" Bennett, 29, also are charged with money laundering by funneling drug money through a business account associated with Exclusive Fashions, Downtown, and buying two properties in the East Hills and Wilkinsburg.
